The Originals: Make Your Own Barrel-Aged Gin
Make your own barrel-aged gin with these oak chips. Add your gin to the bottle of chips and let them release their rich flavour and beautiful colour, just like a classic wooden barrel maturation. Enjoy the luxurious experience of barrel-aged gin, right from the comfort of your own home!
How to make it:
1. Add booze
Start by adding your favourite gin. Make sure the gin contains at least 30% alcohol. Note the bottling date and the type of gin you used on the label. We recommend using your favourite gin for this experiment; you will be amazed at the difference in flavour.
2. The maturation process
After filling your bottle, leave it to mature in a cool, dark place. The wood chips will slowly release their soft flavour and amber colour. Taste occasionally to see how the flavours develop. This process takes about eight weeks, but you can also discover what happens if you let it mature longer.
3. Serve your own whisky
After eight weeks, it is time to serve your own drink. Filter the drink or pour it carefully before drinking it. Make sure that no wood chips end up in your glass. Never eat the wood chips either.
