How do you make a design stand the test of time? It's easy to keep these two guiding words in mind: design and function. Then never get too comfortable and never stop refining and developing your idea to make sure it is in tune with the present day. This is exactly how the light and airy String® shelving system came to life and became a much-loved design icon. It all started when the Swedish publishing house Bonniers organized a competition in 1949. They wanted to offer the Swedish people an affordable bookshelf without compromising on design and quality. Another important criterion was that the bookshelf should be easy to ship, assemble and install.
The couple Nisse and Kajsa Strinning entered the competition and, as you probably already knew, won with their ingenious design; a flexible, elegant and minimalist shelving system that can be mounted on any wall. And voilà; String® System was born. The combination of skills that Nisse and Kajsa possessed together was destined for success. Nisse was a trained architect with a special sense of innovation and new concepts, while Kajsa was the thorough, artistic and patient of the two. In the years that followed, they continued to refine the String® system until they were perfect, which is the construction and design found in stores around the world today.
Over time, the String Furniture family has grown and collections such as Works .. by String Furniture and Museum .. by String Furniture are now part of the family. We are constantly developing, refining and adapting our products to ensure that they exceed the idea of what is considered functional and smart design. It is important for us to be able to offer versatile furniture that helps you optimize storage while adding design and beauty to your home.
