Country Road woth horse and cart
Discover 'Landkar op weg' ('Cart on a Path'), the most sparse and expansive design from our collaboration with the Emile Van Doren Museum in Genk. A wide, panoramic canvas: a dirt road winding through open heathland, a horse-drawn cart with two figures in the distance, and a single dark pine tree. Beyond that nothing but sky.
In August 1901, coal was discovered beneath the Belgian province of Limburg. Within a few decades, the quiet farming village to which Van Doren had moved would grow into what the museum calls "Flanders' third industrial hub." He witnessed this transformation, and he did more than just paint through it. He served on the Royal Commission for Monuments and Landscapes, becoming an active advocate for the very landscape he captured in his paintings.
That story does not end with the words, "and then it was gone." A significant portion of this heathland is now protected as the Hoge Kempen National Park. The museum credits this protection in part to painters like Van Doren, who were the first to reveal its true value. He painted the landscape because he saw it disappearing—and that act of painting is one of the reasons why a part of it still exists today.
On the sock, the canvas becomes an ochre-yellow base representing the sand and dry heath, with a light-blue border for the sky; between them lies the sandy path, complete with a cart and a pine tree. The design is woven in rather than printed, the colors are embedded within the fabric, ensuring they do not fade.
Wonderfully soft: organic cotton ensures soft, durable socks—kind to both your skin and the environment. Wash-resistant colors: your socks will continue to look fresh and vibrant, even after countless washes. Seamless comfort: no irritating, chafing seams, enjoy smooth, all-day comfort, even when wearing tight-fitting shoes. Reinforced heel and toe: extra durability in the areas most prone to wear, so you can enjoy your favorite socks for longer.
