All her life, Yvette has cooked with free provisions from nature. After all, why would you buy garden cress if ground trot grows between your paving stones? You just have to know and learn to recognize it.
Well: this book is a herbarium, edible plant guide and recipe book all in one. Yvette shows you the most common wild plants, she teaches you how to recognize them and what they taste like. In this way you will learn how to easily apply wild harvesting in your own dishes.
It used to be completely normal to cook with nature directly on the plate, but now we have become a bit alienated from that. But you can still really stuff your jacket pockets with the tastiest plants, which can often be found in the city park. You don't always have to go all the way in the dunes or the forest.
When Yvette grew up she made a lot of herbaria: she dried plants she liked and pasted them in her many albums. She has picked up that childhood hobby again in recent years: everything she encountered on her walks she has dried between layers of paper, cardboard and planks. Her husband Oof Verschuren has photographed the plants and the recipes with fabulous beauty. In this way, Oof and Yvette hope to once again inspire grown-ups and small children to get started themselves and thereby take a good look at the - often edible - nature.
At the back of the book are more than a hundred easy, almost all vegetarian, (basic) recipes with an original twist. They are written in such a way that you can often exchange one herb for another, in order to give the dish a different taste, after all: not all plants can be picked all year round, but there is often something that looks similar.
