Kleine natuur

kleine natuur - Renze Borkent | MOOSE in the CITY

What happens when you go on a voyage of discovery in your own garden? And find out the names of all the birds and butterflies, beetles and lichens, plants and mushrooms, bugs and wasps, dragonflies, crickets, bees and flies, in short, every species you come across? Renze Borkent went on a garden safari and discovered more than 1,200 species in his small city garden.

Armed with a camera, field guides and recognition apps, he searches every corner of his garden every day and discovers one species after another. He even finds new species for the Netherlands. As the species list grows, he sees more and more connections between plants, biotopes and animal species. Light-hearted, with a sense of humor and sometimes painfully vulnerable, he reflects on the astonishing diversity of species in his city garden.

'A great report of the discovery of small nature in our own species-rich city garden. Compelling and infectious.' - Caspar Janssen, journalist, writer and columnist

Renze Borkent (1979) regularly writes short stories in which nature plays an important role. In recent years he has mainly written about his nature experiences in his own garden, where he also reflects on his own life.
