Het hondenpark

Sofi Oksanen

Olenka was born and raised in the poor and corrupt Ukraine, but through her work as a photo model she also got to know the rich West. After that career stalled, she returns to Ukraine, where she comes into contact with a new industry: egg donation for the benefit of childless western couples. She starts as a donor, but thanks to her knowledge of the West she soon manages to become a coordinator.
Then Daria comes on her path, the daughter of a former business partner of her father. She recognizes Daria's potential as an egg donor and model and sees a great future for the young woman - and for herself as Daria's manager.
When Daria suddenly disappears one day, Olenka initially sees no connection to past events. By the time she does, however, it is already too late: she is forced to move abroad, and so she ends up in Helsinki, on the edge of a park where a young family takes the dog for a walk.

The Dog Park is an overwhelmingly exciting novel about loyalty and broken trust, written by one of the most original and greatest writers in Europe. It's a story that exposes the mercilessness of commercial egg donation, in which female fertility has become a model of earnings, and of life, in which the past keeps popping up, no matter how hard you try to forget it.
