You never wear a third of the clothes in your wardrobe. You rarely wear another third. Nine out of ten clothes you haven't touched for a year. You throw away more clothes than any other European consumer and yet you keep buying new clothes. Because you feel like you need new clothes. Because every morning you think you have nothing to wear.
After all, that's what the fashion industry wants you to believe. Brands launch on average every six weeks – some even every day! – a new collection. In response, journalist Sarah Vandoorne decided to wear only six items of clothing for six weeks. What started as a playful action grew into years of research in which she critically examined every link in the textile chain. Where do our clothes come from, how are they made, who makes them and where do they end up if we don't want them (anymore)? From Belgium and the Netherlands via Morocco, Indonesia and Ghana to India and Bangladesh: Sarah takes you on her search for the origin and value of our clothing.
Wardrobe Fasting is an extremely interesting, but also confrontational and urgent book about the utensils that we all wear on our skin.
