Hans Beerends

Hans Beerends is the doyen in the Netherlands of the global struggle against colonialism, racism and dictatorship. In the 1960s he became involved in campaigns involving Vietnam, Southern Africa and fair trade relations.

One of his first major campaigns is directed against the import of Portuguese coffee from Angola, which has been ravaged by a fierce decolonization war: get rid of blood coffee! Beerends is also one of the founders of the World Shop, where we have been buying products from emerging countries for a fairer price for decades.

After sixty years of campaigning, Hans Beerends, together with authors Ellen Mangnus and Marc Broere, takes stock. What has the fight for a fair world achieved? How can you remain optimistic when you open the newspapers? How do you move people? Hans Beerends always has a positive answer to these urgent questions.
