"I only make one good resolution for this year: to be more sensory in life. Look smaller, listen closer, smell more openly, feel more deeply, taste more attentively. I am not saying that my life has been a party since then, but it does have more mini parties now. Small daily parties, sometimes they only last a little while but they make every day more beautiful and you don't have to travel to the other side of the world for it. Open your front door: this is where nature begins."
The aim of 'Hier begint de natuur' (This is where nature begins) is to allow the reader to experience nature more deeply throughout all seasons. In everyday small parties.
In a year in which people learned to walk again, Caro Van Thuyne put her nature observations on paper. From one winter to the next she takes the reader into her garden, through fields and woods, past pools and sea, across rivers, even to the corner of the house where a spider guards her egg cocoon and in a cardboard box
butterflies are born.
It makes 'Here nature begins' a compelling and instructive book in which Caro Van Thuyne's image-rich language is beautifully reflected in the poetic illustrations by Wiske Vandendriessche.
CARO VAN THUYNE debuted in 2018 with the collection of short stories 'We, the foam', which was shortlisted for the Anton Wachter Prize. In 2021 the novel 'Lijn van wee en Wens' was published, which won the Bronzen Owl and was nominated for the Libris Literature Prize.
Here Nature Begins is her first non-fiction book.
